Program #285 “The Gorsuch Hearings” – 4/16/2017– Synopsis

As was expected, Neil Gorsuch was confirmed by the Senate.  In watching the hearings, I wondered what possible spiritual lesson ought we to  glean from this event.  Obviously, all things are ordained by God for our learning.

I was encouraged by Gorsuch’s positions, but the missing ingredient was Christ and even Theism in general.   Even though Gorsuch is a conservative, he is still coming from the school of thought that law ought to be argued on the basis of human utility and autonomy. Even in his book, The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia (2006), Gorsuch argues against Euthanasia on a non-theistic foundation. He appeals to natural law, but not to the classical Christian view of natural law – a law based on God’s revelation in nature and conscience.  His natural law is a generally acknowledged universal good for all mankind (which is actually utilitarianism).

The point Christians should recognize is that there is no possibility of returning America to morality without the citizenship abandoning the philosophy of secularism. God is the necessary basis for justice, and “without God all things are permissible” (as said Dostoevsky and certainly Jesus and Paul)

Let’s stop hiding the foundation for  what we believe and practice.  Fortresses will only crumble if we speak for God and His truth.
