Synopsis:  Program #90  - “Persecution in the Armed Forces” -  July 21, 2013

There has recently been a rash of reports about Christians in the armed services being reprimanded or silenced for their faith.  And as we should have expected, while the military is pushing for homosexuals to come out of the closet, Christians are subsequently being pushed into the closet.

The House and Senate have put forth amendments to protect religious rights in the armed forces.  President Obama has stated such amendments will have a “significant adverse effect on good order, discipline, morale, and mission accomplishment.”  What a change Obama’s policies are from our first Commander and Chief, General George Washington, who stated, “While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.”

The program covers the anti-religious efforts of Mike Weinstein and The Military Religious Freedom Foundation [Freedom from Religion], examples of persecution in the military from the early church, and what the Bible teaches about the importance of having God in the armed forces.

Although these recent reports come as bad news, Christians must see God’s providential hand of protection even in times of persecution. If the military persists in alienating the Christian faith, God is undoubtedly positioning His people to be out of the military.
