Program #240 “Boycotts – 6/5/2016 – Synopsis

In response to the Target corporation announcing men can use its women’s bathroom and women can use its men’s bathroom, the American Family Association sponsored a boycott against Target. Over one million Americans pledged not to shop at Target as long as the company maintains its LGBT bathroom policy.

This brings up the whole issue of boycotts. Is it right or wrong for Christians to boycott companies that do not follow God’s moral standards? Are boycotts part of our duty to be salt and light; or, as some claim, do boycotts hurt our testimony before unbelievers? What does the Bible have to say about boycotts?

In this program I discuss various Christian opinions on the subject. I conclude with some Biblical guidance from Acts chapter 19. From that text I explain the difference between direct and indirect boycotts. The Scriptural example appears to support the indirect approach.
