This week’s program is part two in a series about the codification of Christian law by the Roman Emperor Theodocius II. Although many Christian laws were instituted in the fourth century, it was Theodocius II who commissioned a unified compilation of the these laws for the entire empire. His father, Theodocius, made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. These actions solidified Christian values in the Western world for the next 1500 years.

In retrospect, it is easy to be critical of the wedding of Christianity with the State, but the overall principle was right. A country needs to decide if it is going to base law on God or humanism. What we now have in the 20^th century is a reversal of the Christianization that took place in the fourth century. Our leaders no longer believe the state is to be under God; and, hence, we see the return to pagan immorality and corruption. We will better understand our situation today if we know the history of Christianity and the State.
